The "40 Pound Mission"
You will soon become familiar with the "40 Pound" expression, which refers to the amount of weight that missionaries take home with them after their mission here ends. The traditional food is laden with starches (bread fruit, potatoes, rice, bread, desserts). However, you can stay healthy by watching those carbs and exercising. Here's are a few suggestions (click the link that interests you):
- SWIM
- Fitness Center
- Walk on the 1.5 mile bike and pedestrian path, which connects Laie and Kahuku. It begins on the other side of Cackle Fresh Eggs. More here: tinyurl.com/khqzz93
- KAHUKU RUNNING TRAILS (100 trails) www.mapmyrun.com/us/kahuku-hi/
- Racquetball
- Basketball
- Aloha Stadium - have fun while getting your walk in. Don't forget to bring a hat, sunscreen, water, and maybe some sunglasses - See more at: http://www.best-of-oahu.com/aloha-stadium-swap-meet.html#sthash.cXdq7EKJ.dpuf
- Hikes - If you enjoy hiking, ask around to see if there are other missionaries interested in hiking. Hauula has a 1.5 hour hike that is perfect for beginners (see destination tab). Always take someone along with you for safety reasons.
- Golf - Yes, we even have that! Here are a couple of places you can explore LINK.
