Emergency preparedness is a gospel principle. The leaders of the Church have instructed us to be ready for any type of disaster or accident. These include fires, floods, tornadoes, power outages, car accidents, job loss, and even the loss of a family member. Emergency preparedness is about taking responsibility for our lives and our families. LINK
SMOKE DETECTORS: Everyone should have a fire/carbon monoxide detector. If there is not one in your home, please request one (from your landlord) or purchase one as soon as possible.

SIRENS: The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency monthly tests their statewide outdoor siren warning system, coordinated with the test of the live audio broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System.
Tests of the outdoor warning sirens and the Emergency Alert System are conducted simultaneously, normally on the first working day of the month, in cooperation with Hawaii’s broadcasting industry. Emergency management and disaster preparedness information is located in the front section of telephone directories in all counties.
If you hear the siren at any other time, residents are urged to tune to any local radio or television station for emergency information and instructions. Participating stations will carry a detailed explanation of what the sirens mean, as well as other related information. LINK
