Finding Paradise
Put in papers for a mission Then waited long for the call De junked and decluttered And made trips to the mall, When the packet finally happened Everybody gave a shout! We were headed for Hawaii Paradise-without a doubt, And around the very same time The comments flooded in “That’s exciting! That’s no mission” “That’s vacation!” That’s a sin!” Next the MTC experience Oh so humbling and neat, A whirlwind week of blessings, The Plane-- Please take your seat, Then touch down in Oahu Gifted with a lei Shown to our apartment, What a very special day, The training quickly followed So much for us to know- Aloha and Mahalo, Schedules, meetings –where to go! Things like how to make a shaka, Stuff you mustn’t ever say What’s a lava lava, Wear your moo moo on this day, |
The weather was so humid,
All it did that week was pour, “Don’t touch me-you are sticky” “Move the fan, open the door” Then the roosters in the morning They crowed ‘till I turned blue, I’ve got it! Is it morning? Then the dogs-- give me a shoe! What’s that crawling on my ceiling? There’s a gecko on my wall, Centipedes that sting you? And that’s not even all, When I look into the mirror, A stranger greets me there, I see the wild and untamed In the place that was my hair, But among the icky, sticky, crawly and cock-a-doodle-doo’s, God’s work is moving forward, At PCC and BYU, It’s true-- I live in paradise, But the thing that makes it so Is not the ever changing sea And splendid ebbs and flows, It’s being part of God’s great army, United in his cause, With knitted hearts we labor here In spite of all our flaws, So bring it noisy roosters, And creepies on the wall, Turn up the fan another notch, Clip on my badge --stand tall.
