Housing
Island Living - Land is at a premium here on the island, so missionary apartments vary in size and furnishings. Just do what you can with what you are given, keeping in mind that these are temporary housing while we engage in our service for the Lord.
Cooking
No stove? No problem! You aren't alone in this. Apartments vary in size and furnishings, but here are a few suggestions on how to handle it.
- A microwave, a toast oven, electric skillet and a insta-pot, will provide about everything you need for cooking. The insta-pot does everything and saves you time and electricity. Pressure cook, make yogurt, rice, oatmeal, eggs... and it has a delay timer. It's the latest is cooking!
- If you have a lot to bake: Many sisters who do have a full size stove, are often willing to let you use theirs on occasion as long as it isn't HOT and HUMID. A hot day will bring the temperature of an apartment up considerably). Use a fan to blow the heat out of the window.
Laundry
Laundry facilities vary as much as cooking facilities here on the island. Some missionaries are blessed with free laundry, while others have coin op. If you aren't sure about where you should do your laundry, contact your housing supervisor.
